New Range Rover Velar nets five-star Euro NCAP rating
Velar beats full-size Range Rover's adult occupancy rating in crash test results, and is one of the safest in its class
Fresh from its arrival in UK showrooms, the Range Rover Velar has been awarded a five-star Euro NCAP crash test rating. The British-built SUV joins the Porsche Macan as one of the safest cars in its class.
The industry standard safety testing body awarded the Velar a 93 per cent rating for adult occupant protection in an accident. It's one of the strongest figures in recent tests, beating the Macan and even the full-size Range Rover.
Euro NCAP's testers also praised the Velar's child protection in every impact, and it achieved an 85 per cent rating, while a 74 per cent rating for safety assist features is a result of all systems performing as expected, with the autonomous braking function detecting pedestrian dummies.
Mild criticism was levelled at the Velar's pedestrian protection despite a good overall score, with poor results for windscreen pillar impact. Euro NCAP also plans to test another JLR SUV, the Jaguar F-Pace, later this year.
