New Mercedes GLE Coupe: pics, prices and Jurassic World debut
Mercedes' swoopy new BMW X6 rival makes big screen debut in Jurassic World film, and is on sale now with prices starting from £60,680
Mercedes' swoopy new BMW X6 rival is nearing showrooms very soon, with customers able to order it now priced from £60,680. The GLE Coupe also stars in this year's biggest blockbuster so far, Jurassic World, alongside both four and six-wheeled versions of the Mercedes G-Class SUV.
The more stylish new GLE Coupe will sit alongside the standard ML-replacing GLE, which debuts later in September. That £60,680 asking price gets you in a GLE 350d in base AMG-Line spec. Power comes from a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel engine generating 255bhp and 620Nm of torque and 39.2mpg on the combined cycle. Standard kit includes adaptive air suspension, AMG body styling, 21-inch alloys, LED headlamps, an electric tailgate, heated leather seats, Merc's seven-inch COMAND infotainment system and keyless go.

The lowest priced petrol engine at launch is the 362bhp 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 in the 450 AMG, which starts at £62,800. It's capable of 31.7mpg combined and emits 209g/km of CO2. Step up to luxurious designo Line spec, for £9,295 extra, which brings niceties such as active park assist with a 360-degree camera, soft-close doors and bootlid, a panoramic sunroof, quilted leather with cooling and massaging functions and a Harmon-Kardon surround sound system.
The full-fat Mercedes-AMG GLE 63, starting at £96,550, sports a 5.5-litre twin turbo V8 and develops a whopping 577bhp and 760Nm of torque. That will see this 2.3-tonne SUV complete the 0-62mph sprint in 4.2 seconds and go on to a top speed of 174mph. It only manages 23.7mpg combined, however, while CO2 emissions are rated at 278g/km.
While the car in our studio shots will share its platform with the standard GLE, the body couldn’t be more different. Thanks to a steeply raked windscreen, even the front doors are unique, while the sloping roofline and sharper bumper designs mark it out further.
Inside, the sloping roofline means tall adults will struggle for rear headroom, but there’s still plenty of legroom. The boot has 670 litres of space, which is bigger than the X6’s (580 litres) and also the seven-seat X5’s with the back seats folded (650 litres).
