New Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro prices and specifications announced

Mercedes’ rival for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS is on sale now, with prices starting from £188,345

Mercedes has released pricing information and full specifications for the upcoming AMG GT R Pro Coupe. Due to reach the UK market in July, the new limited-edition flagship model features a range of chassis upgrades, a suite of functional aero and a stripped-back interior, and will be priced from £188,345.

The Pro features the same 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 as the AMG GT R, producing 577bhp and 700Nm of torque. It sprints from 0-62mph in 3.6 seconds and, flat out, it will match the GT R’s top speed of 198mph. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox via an electronically-controlled limited-slip differential.

Mercedes-AMG GT range refreshed with new tech

While these figures show no improvement over the standard AMG GT R, the Pro benefits from a host of chassis upgrades, including adjustable coil-over suspension, lightened anti-roll bars and electronically-controlled dynamic engine and transmission mounts.

To offset the lack of additional performance, Mercedes-AMG has employed weight-saving tactics throughout the Pro’s construction. So the roof and seats are made from carbon fibre, the wheels are lightweight forged units and the brakes are ceramic.

The Pro package also brings a range of aerodynamic upgrades over the standard GT R, including a new, braced front splitter with canards, a new rear diffuser with canards and an updated rear wing; all are made from carbon fibre. A new active downforce system on the front splitter also claims to increase grip.

Standard equipment includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument binnacle and infotainment system, a Burmester surround sound system, keyless go and parking assist. Those forged-alloy wheels also come in a choice of either 19 or 20-inch diameters.

For the European market, the GT R Pro is equipped with Mercedes-AMG’s track package as standard. This adds a full steel roll-cage, four-point safety harness and a 2kg fire extinguisher.

With all these tweaks in place, Mercedes claims that the AMG GT R Pro has completed a lap of the Nurburgring race track in Germany in 7.04.623 – just over five seconds quicker than the standard GT R, but still around eight seconds slower than its main rival, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
