New Brabus Mercedes-AMG GT S breaks 200mph barrier
Brabus tunes Merc's latest sports car to 591bhp and 750Nm of torque, set to debut at Frankfurt show
Mercedes might be showing its sleek new C-Class coupe and S-Class cabrio at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but German tuner Brabus might steal the firm's limelight with a beefed-up version of its AMG GT S sports car.
If you're one of the (surely few) people who finds the standard 503bhp AMG GT S a bit underpowered, you'll like what the Brabus package has to offer. A new mapping kit for the ECU and increased boost pressure on the twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 adds a further 88bhp and 100Nm of torque.
The 0-62mph time drops from 3.8 to 3.6 seconds, while the top speed goes from 193mph to 201mph. Power delivery is also optimised by a new quad exhaust system made from titanium and carbon that weighs 40 per cent less than the regular system.
But it's not just about pure performance with Brabus, as the exterior also gets some aerodynamic and styling revisions. A clear-coated carbon bodykit features, while a new forged cross spoke alloy wheel design (20-inch at the front and 21-inch at the rear) hides brightly coloured brake calipers with Brabus logos.
Inside, there are exclusive accessories such as carbon scuff plates with stainless-steel inserts and a backlit Brabus logo, as well as matte anodized or chrome-plated aluminum pedals. New aluminum paddle shifters are also available in a more ergonomic position on the steering wheel. Tailored leather and alcantara upholstery can be ordered, with bespoke dashboard trims on the options list.
Prices for the Brabus accessories are yet to be revealed, but as with most of the tuning company's offerings, the sky will be the limit for those lucky enough to afford one.
