Updated MG ZS launched with new look and fresh tech

MG has given its ZS SUV a mid-cycle facelift, adding a few subtle styling tweaks and some extra interior technology

MG has updated the ZS SUV for 2020, adding a range of styling and technology upgrades. The revised model is on sale now priced from £15,495 for the entry-level Excite model, climbing to £17,795 for the range-topping Exclusive variant.

Cosmetic revisions over the outgoing model include new 17-inch alloy wheels, a new front bumper with fresh LED headlamps, a revised radiator grille and an updated rear bumper with a tweaked skid-plate and faux exhaust tips. Buyers also get a new paint finish – Battersea Blue – which replaces the old car’s Laser Blue body colour.

Inside, the old car’s eight-inch infotainment system has been ditched in favour of a new 10.1-inch unit, which offers support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. MG has also fitted a fresh soft-touch dashboard and a new centre armrest for the front seats.

As standard, the facelifted MG ZS comes with electrically folding and heated door mirrors, silver roof rails, rear parking sensors, cruise control and hill hold assist. The cabin gets a leather steering wheel, electric windows, air conditioning, fabric seat upholstery and a four-speaker audio system.

The range-topping Exclusive variant adds an extra two speakers to the stereo system, as well as heated front seats, a digital driver display for the instrument binnacle, satellite navigation, a 360-degree parking camera and leather upholstery. There’s a couple of exterior upgrades, too, such as front fog lamps and a unique set of 17-inch alloy wheels.

From launch, just one engine will be available. It’s a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol unit which produces 105bhp and 141Nm of torque. MG says  0–62mph takes a claimed 10.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 109mph, while returning claimed fuel economy of 41.4mpg.

The outgoing car’s GM-sourced turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine and six-speed automatic gearbox have been dropped from the range, which means the only transmission option for petrol buyers is now a five-speed manual. MG is also yet to confirm whether the ZS’s latest updates will be applied to its pure-electric sibling – the ZS EV.
