MINI recalls 30,000 cars
Fault on MINI Cooper S and John Cooper Works prompts recall of 30,000 UK models
MINI has issued a recall on almost 30,000 Cooper S and John Cooper Works models in the UK.
The recall concerns an issue with a circuit board that makes up part of the water pump. MINI claims “the circuit board may smoulder which could result in a vehicle fire”.
One case of a vehicle fire in the UK is being investigated to establish whether the water pump was to blame.
More than 235,000 vehicles worldwide are affected, and MINI will be notifying owners if their car is affected in the coming weeks. MINI is hoping to solve the problem in February by inviting owners to have a new water pump fitted at dealers.
In the meantime, MINI has said that vehicles are safe to drive and issues arising from the fault will be very rare.
