Mitsubishi Super Height K-Wagon concept goes small on size, big on tech

The Mitsubishi Super Height K-Wagon concept has launched in Tokyo with lots of tech and a strong SUV flavour

Mitsubishi has treated the Tokyo Motor Show crowds to a new concept kei car designed for drivers who want to take their urban runabouts beyond the city limits.

As the name suggests, the Mitsubishi Super Height K-Wagon concept is a very tall city car conforming to Japan's kei-car regulations but Mitsubishi has merged-in elements from its SUV range to, it says, add a bit more character.

The wheeled wardrobe shape is adorned with the latest bold Mitsubishi SUV grille as seen on the Engleberg Tourer concept. The inherent boxiness is further broken up by a dramatic upward kink in the window line at the rear of the car and roof rails for the contrasting coloured roof. In typical crossover SUV style, there are also black plastic extensions for the wheelarches and sills.

Mitsubishi says the Super Height K-Wagon has the largest rear door opening and back seat legroom in its class and points to the ‘chic premium interior’ in diamond quilted synthetic leather with orange detailing.

The car is powered by a small petrol engine mated to a CVT gearbox. On the safety front, meanwhile, Mitsubishi’s e-Assist active safety technology is included with MI-PILOT lane-keeping assist and automatic emergency braking.
