The mid-range Mitsubishi L200 Warrior starts from £26,400 and features 18-inch alloys, a touch screen infotainment system, LED headlights, LED tail lights, automatic headlamps and wipers, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and rear privacy glass. Buyers also get a range of safety equipment including forward collision mitigation and lane departure warning.

Barbarian models start at £29,300 and add leather upholstery, heated front seats, interior mood lighting, puddle lamps and extra off-road drive modes. The range-topping L200 Barbarian X is priced from £32,200 and comes with a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, auto high beam assist, LED fog lamps and a host of extra safety kit.

For its sixth iteration, Mitsubishi has completely overhauled the L200’s styling, bringing the pick-up in line with company’s latest “Dynamic Shield” design language as seen on the recently released Shogun Sport. New, more angular front and rear bumpers feature, along with fresh LED daytime running lights and slimmer headlights.

There are some small design changes in the cabin, too. The refreshed truck keeps the same dashboard, but tweaked with some new trim elements and switchgear surrounds. Mitsubishi says that new soft touch materials are used on the console, centre armrest and handbrake.

Under the skin, the new L200 gets a substantial overhaul with an upgraded four-wheel-drive system, larger brakes, revised suspension with beefier rear dampers, locking differentials and a new five-channel “Off Road Mode” and “Hill Descent Control” system for the drive mode selector.

A new, Euro 6d-compliant turbocharged 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine also features, producing 148bhp and 400Nm of torque. The engine can be had with either a six-speed manual or a new six-speed automatic transmission and offers fuel economy figures of 32.1mpg and a maximum towing capacity of 3,500kg.

Top-spec models get a wealth of safety equipment, including rear cross traffic alert, a blind spot warning system and lane change assist. Mitsubishi has also fitted an ultrasonic mis-acceleration system which can detect an obstacle within four metres of the pick-up when moving and limit the engine’s power if the driver mistakenly presses the accelerator too hard.
