MINI confirms all-electric next-gen MINI Convertible for 2025

Open top, zero-emission MINI will be rival for Fiat’s all-electric 500 C

MINI boss Bernd Korber has confirmed that the next-generation MINI will mark the debut of an all-electric Convertible model to sit alongside the MINI Electric supermini

The next-generation MINI Hatch has been spied ahead of going on sale in 2023. It will be smaller than the current-generation model, using an all-electric platform developed between MINI and Chinese SUV maker Great Wall.

"The MINI Convertible has a large and particularly loyal fan base. This is also shown by the great demand for the latest, freshly updated model. We are therefore firmly convinced of the success of this vehicle concept for the future," said Korber.

MINI has confirmed that the new Convertible EV will arrive two years after the next-generation MINI Hatch, debuting in 2025. It will almost certainly be built in China - MINI has said that the next-generation all-electric Hatch will run down a new production line for the jointly developed platform at a facility in Zhangjiagang.

No further detail has been released beyond MINI confirming that the new model will continue to be a four-seater, despite the anticipated decrease in the vehicle’s proportions.

Though the automotive landscape could look quite different four years from now, as of this moment the next-gen MINI Convertible is set to enter an exclusive club as one of only a few all-electric convertible cars on sale globally.

It will directly rival the new Fiat 500 C electric, while Volkswagen could have a ready-made rival by 2027 in the form of a convertible version of the ID.3 electric car, which has been teased by the brand.
