New hot Polestar 2 BST Edition 270 blasts in with 469bhp

The Polestar 2 BST Edition 270 is a more powerful and focused version of the popular electric car and takes on the Tesla Model 3 Performance saloon with 469bhp

Polestar has revealed a new version of the Tesla Model 3-rivalling Polestar 2, positioned as a high-performance, limited-run variant of the brand’s all-electric model. Called the BST Edition 270, the new car is based heavily on the Polestar 2 Experimental concept revealed at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath confirmed that the warm reception the concept received at the 2021 festival and customer interest “made it clear” that a production version would have to follow to satisfy demand.

As the BST Edition 270’s name implies, only 270 examples will be made. Polestar has confirmed that the car will be sold in the North American and European markets but has not yet named a price. However, production of the new high-performance Polestar 2 variant will begin in mid-2022 before deliveries commence towards the end of the year.

Unlocking a new turn of speed from the Polestar 2, the BST Edition 270 comes as standard with the new Performance upgrade available as an over-the-air download on dual-motor versions of the standard Polestar 2. This unlocks an additional 67bhp from the car’s motors, taking power to 469bhp while increasing maximum torque to 680Nm. The battery capacity remains at 78kWh.

Polestar has yet to issue updated range and performance figures, but the car’s maximum range will likely drop a little compared with the 299-mile maximum the dual-motor long-range model offers, while slashing its 4.5-second 0-62mph dash dramatically.

Chassis revisions are almost completely carried over from the Experimental concept. The ride height is lowered by 25mm, while the car features 20 per cent stiffer springs. New two-way manually adjustable Ohlins dampers are fitted as standard, allowing the driver to change the damper settings manually with  adjustment controls under the bonnet. Alongside them is a front strut brace taken from the Volvo S60 Polestar Engineered

Also fitted as standard to the BST Edition 270 are 21-inch wheels taken from the Polestar 1 coupe, wearing Pirelli P-Zero tyres developed especially for the new hot version of the 2. The newcomer does without the rear strut brace of the concept, and retains the standard Brembo four-piston brakes.

One or two new exterior tweaks mark this version out as the range flagship. Body-coloured bumpers and side skirts are fitted and the side mirrors are finished in gloss black. Available as an option is a matte black body stripe, or a full-body ‘Battleship Grey’ satin wrap. Further gold detailing is applied, including on the brake calipers.

Orders aren’t open yet but potential customers can register their interest by heading to Polestar’s website.
