Bespoke Porsche 911 built to celebrate Facebook success
Fans design the Porsche 911 on the manufacturer's Facebook page
A bespoke Porsche 911 has been built to celebrate the manufacturer's Facebook success, with fans of the brand getting to spec-up a special one-off version.
Taking a new 991-series 911 Carrera 4S as a base, Porsche gave its five million fans a range of options to choose from to customise the car, with the most popular being added to the finished article by Porsche's Bespoke department.
According to the manufacturer, over 54,000 fans took part in the voting process.
The Porsche 911 is painted in Aqua Blue metallic paint with a stripe down each side bearing the words ‘5M Porsche Fans.’ There’s also a stripe that runs up the bonnet and over the roof. Inside, there are special illuminated door sill guards that feature the model name and the words ‘personally built by 5 million Porsche fans’. The script is repeated on the brushed aluminium trim that runs across the dashboard.
Aluminium trim also features inside the Porsche 911 on the centre console, the pedals and the gearlever, which controls the seven-speed PDK gearbox.
Fans chose 20-inch white painted Carrera S wheels, while the car rides on Porsche’s sports suspension.
The Porsche 911 also features a sports exhaust and the Porsche Sport Chrono package. The exterior benefits from the Aerokit Cup, which includes a lower front bumper and a larger, fixed rear wing.
Porsche is now running a competition on its Facebook page to win a drive in the Porsche 911 at the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone. The competition runs until August 18.
This isn’t the first time that Porsche has used its Facebook following to create a one-off car. In early 2012 the firm unveiled a unique Porsche Cayman S, liveried with pictures of its fans, to celebrate reaching the landmark of two million Facebook likes.
