Maxxis Premitra 5 HP5 review

By no means a bad tyre, but rivals have moved the game on with their new designs and development since the Premitra’s debut

When we last tested the Premitra 5 back in 2020, the Taiwanese producer shook up the established front-runners with an impressive fourth place. Indeed, its score was within one per cent of the winning Goodyear’s.

That Goodyear is back this year but the Maxxis has dropped further away, while others have raised the performance bar.

The highlight was its deep-water aquaplaning result, but in shallower depths it propped up the results table alongside fellow struggler Falken.

The same shortage of front grip we experienced before was still there, with a soft turn-in that became a slide across the track. Care was also needed on the throttle because the tyres spun up easily. That lazy feel was also there in the dry.
