Renault Kadjar gets new 1.6-litre turbo

New range-topping 163bhp 1.6-litre turbo gets added to Renault Kadjar SUV's line-up, along with CVT auto

Renault has updated the Kadjar crossover line-up with a new petrol engine and transmission option, two years after it first hit the UK market.

A new 163bhp 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo has joined the range, sitting above the smaller-capacity 1.2-litre turbo that is already on offer. Renault claims models fitted the TCe 165 are capable of 0-62mph in 9.2 seconds and a top speed of 127mph.

The more powerful engine asks a small sacrifice in fuel economy as a result, with Renault claiming 47.1mpg – that’s 3mpg down over the 1.2-litre model. Prices for the new engine start from £22,915, while it is only offered on Dynamic Nav models and above.

Elsewhere in the Kadjar range, Renault has also added new X-Tronic CVT transmission to the dCi 130 model, offering a smoother drive according to the French manufacturer. That powertrain combination is enough for 0-62mph in 11.1 seconds and a top speed of 117mph.

Renault has also introduced a new Hands free keycard functionality to the Kadjar, which allows owners to keep the key in their pocket while the car automatically unlocks itself as they approach.

Deliveries of the new engine and transmission option begin in October, while the entry-level cost of the Kadjar has risen by £300 to £19,785.
