Skoda gives Karoq SUV raft of updates for 2023

More style and tech for mid-size family SUV with updates to 2023 model range

Skoda has only just given its Nissan Qashqai and Peugeot 3008-rivalling Karoq SUV a mid-life facelift, but already the Czech brand has revised equipment and trim levels, with the introduction of a new MY23 version of its compact crossover, on sale in Britain now.

The new-look range consists of three trim levels and five engine options. Some new design upgrades are thrown into the mix, along with new standard technology and an updated options list, with prices starting from £26,225.

Perhaps the biggest change for the updated Karoq line-up is the inclusion of a digital dash as standard on all models. A new eight-inch digital information display replaces the colour multifunction trip computer and analogue dials on every version of the Karoq, configurable with three different looks.

Sportline models are now offered with Skoda’s Travel Assist Package Plus. This includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind spot detection, traffic sign recognition, lane keep assist and traffic jam assist, plus a new USB-C port on the rear view mirror for accessories such as dashcams

There’s also a new optional Safety Package, which includes curtain side airbags in the front and rear, and Crew Protect assist - this is a suite of pre-crash automated functions such as windows and a sunroof that close automatically, seat belt pre-tensioners.

SE Drive is the entry point to the line-up and is priced from £26,225. It features 17-inch alloy wheels, touchscreen navigation with wireless Apple CarPlay, the new digital instruments, LED headlights and rear parking sensors.

SE L models sit above this, adding 18-inch wheels, and chrome roof rails and window trim. Luxuries include the Winter Pack, which adds a heated steering wheel and front seats, plus heated washer nozzles. Keyless entry, plus a rear-view camera and front and rear parking sensors round off the £28,090 model.

The £32,570 Karoq SportLine remains the range-topping trim, and along with a sportier look and new 19-inch wheels, full LED matrix headlights are offered, as well as an LED interior light package and a panoramic roof on top of the SE L model’s standard kit.

Engines include a 1.0-lire three-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit developing 109bhp, plus a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo with 148bhp. The petrol range is crowned by a 2.0-litre TSI motor with 187bhp, sending drive to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Diesel remains an option in the Karoq line-up, covered by a 2.0-litre TDI engine available with 114bhp or 148bhp. SE L and SportLine diesel models are available with four-wheel drive, while the 148bhp TDI unit is offered with a DSG transmission.
