Tokyo Motor Show 2015: Subaru VISIV concept hints at new Forester
Subaru VISIV SUV concept previews future Forester with self-driving tech, due to debut at Tokyo Motor Show 2015
The 2015 Tokyo Motor Show has been dominated by the big Japanese names like Toyota, Honda and Nissan, but Subaru has also made a splash with two new concept cars providing a glimpse of the future. A new Impreza concept previews the next generation of Subaru's hatchback but equally important is the VISIV SUV concept, hinting at the next Forester.
This was the world premiere of the Subaru VISIV concept; a rugged lifestyle SUV that the firm says "gives a glimpse at the future Subaru has for the brand". The exterior features familiar Subaru design cues but with a bolder approach than we've seen before, and almost certainly previews some of what we can expect from the next Subaru Forester.
Highlights are the dramatic doors and intricate mirror design, while a bespoke integrated bike rack is also on display. The cabin is a fresh approach that Subaru claims, "heightens peace of mind and the anticipation of driving". Autonomous driving tech also features, taking the firm's 'Eyesight' system to another level to allow automatic driving, parking and 360-degree crash avoidance.
This being a Subaru, the VISIV features symmetrical all-wheel drive, while an ultra-efficient direct-injection turbodiesel provides drive. A hybrid powertrain with a downsized turbo engine will also debut.
