Mercedes Sprinter transformed into luxury Jet Van
The Mercedes Sprinter Jet Van is Carlex Design’s attempt at turning big panel van practicality into executive luxury
Carlex Design - famed for their bold aftermarket interiors on cars such as the Nissan GT-R and Ferrari 458 Spider - has revealed its latest luxury creation in the form of the Mercedes Sprinter Jet Van.
Inspired by the idea of “a mobile office that could easily get converted into an exclusive living room”, the Jet Van boasts a number of high-end features designed to keep passengers comfortable and entertained on the road.
• These are the best vans and pick-up trucks
The interior has been finished with a cocktail of black, grey and Alcantara leather, with gold highlights on the various seams and perforations throughout.
Exotic wood is utilised for a number of fixtures - namely the laptop holders, central panel and floor - with 24-karat gold on the cup holders, minibar rim and decorative covers underlining the van’s “exceptional character” in the words of its creator.
Two 3D screens - one of 40 inches, the other of 21 inches - sit either side of the passenger area, and can project images of the outside world as captured by external cameras into the cabin. Windows would probably be cheaper but with these screens occupants can “cherish a glass of champagne” and watch a movie instead.
Internal controls like the air con, LED lighting and seven-way seat adjustment can be controlled from a pair of 10-inch tablets, and acoustic soundproofing ensures that music played via the professional audio system is confined to the inside of the van.
And while Carlex Design is predominantly interior-focussed, it hasn’t missed the chance to work its magic on the exterior as well, adding a custom body kit and reinforced wheels.
However, while it may be called the Jet Van, there don’t appear to be any performance upgrades available, so don’t expect it to eclipse the figures achieved by the standard Mercedes Sprinter models.
Carlex Design has also refrained from mentioning the price of its Mercedes Sprinter Jet Van package, but given the target market and the clear attention to detail, we reckon the total sum will slot neatly into the bracket between ‘eye watering’ and ‘mortgage required’...
