VW Golf Cabriolet 2.0 TSI (265) R, 54.9%

While the Golf MkVI hatch has been replaced, the Cabriolet soldiers on. The soft-top is still popular, and with no replacement imminent, it’s a fine buy.
Residuals for the standard Cabriolet range from 45 to 47 per cent, but the high-performance models hold their value best. The GTI retains 49.7 per cent, or 48.9 per cent with a DSG box, while the 261bhp turbo Golf R Cabriolet holds on to 54.9 per cent.
Of course, it’s not cheap, at £33,170 – although that’s after VW cut the price by £5,600 since launch earlier this year. But the flagship is loaded with kit, including an aggressive bodykit, big alloys, xenon lights, heated leather seats and a premium stereo.
While the Golf R Cabriolet isn’t the most accomplished performer, not many compact convertibles can touch it for acceleration – and this is clearly key to its desirability.
Price now: £33,170
Value after three years: £18,210
