Ford GT LM Edition revealed as bespoke run-out special

Production of the second-generation Ford GT is coming to a close with a new special edition, built in tribute to the Ford’s 2016 Le Mans victory

The Ford GT supercar is set to bow out at the end of this year, but it won't be leaving quietly. To commemorate the GT race car's win at the 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours, Ford is building 20 LM Edition models that feature unique design details and a redesigned titanium exhaust.

The GT LM is finished in Liquid silver paint, with Ford offering a choice of either red or blue-tinted carbon fibre elements as a nod to the winning car's livery. These include the front splitter, sills, door mirrors, engine lid and rear diffuser, with the GT's 20-inch carbon fibre wheels also receiving flashes of red or blue.

The limited-edition model also receives black Brembo brake calipers and titanium lug nuts, along with a bespoke cyclone design for the 3D-printed titanium exhaust system. A titanium badge above the tailpipes also marks out the LM Edition.

The general cabin design is unchanged from the standard GT, aside from LM-specific upholstery options and badging. The driver's seat can be trimmed in either red or blue Alcantara, and this colour theme extends to the engine start button and stitching for the black Alcantara passenger seat. Swathes of matte carbon fibre and black leather are found elsewhere inside, along with a metal "GT LM" motif mounted to the dashboard. The badge has been made by grinding down the crankshaft of the No.69 Ford GT which took third place at Le Mans in 2016 to form an alloy suitable for 3D printing.

Aside from these cosmetic tweaks, the GT LM is fundamentally unchanged from the standard model. The mid-mounted 3.5-litre V6 produces 651bhp with the aid of two turbochargers, and sends drive to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The GT tops out at 216mph, and its carbon fibre chassis, aero-optimised body and adjustable suspension are geared towards ultimate performance on track.

Customer deliveries of the 20 LM Editions are set to commence in autumn, with the final example set to be built before year’s end.
