Grills

Hot days out demand cool drinks and quick food. Here we test the gear that serves up both

To coincide with midsummer, we have tested a tasty selection of the top flasks and grills on sale so you can ensure your picnic in the sunshine is going to be the hottest event of the season!

Among the flasks, good heat insulation was key - for keeping hot drinks hot or, crucially at this time of year, cold drinks cold. So we filled each with boiling liquid, then measured the temperature after an hour.

We also considered practical factors such as the number of cups, the presence of handles and the size of the spouts.

The grills were rated for ease of ignition and the time taken to boil a measured quantity of water. But stoves which were simple to set up and use also won marks.

Verdict

Among the grills, we prefer the versatile stoves to the basic single burners. Campingaz's Kitchen Grill is our favourite, followed by the cheaper Party Grill.
