WINNER - Road Trip
Price: £2.99
Rating: 5/5
BEST BUY It was really close between this and the Gas Cubby, but Road Trip gets the nod. It’s slightly cheaper, and we really liked the summary on the opening page for each vehicle. Data entry is quick, and the basics can be completed on one page, unlike Gas Cubby. As with its rival Road Trip, it can monitor servicing, too, and its online manual is designed to be viewed on the iPhone.

Car Log Lite
Price: Free
Another cut-down version of a more comprehensive app (the full program costs £1.19), although you’ll soon wish for some of the extras. While it can cope with various units and currencies, we could see no way of buying in litres and getting an mpg result. You can only track one car on the free version, too.

Gas Cubby
Price: £3.99
You can see where the cash has been spent with Gas Cubby, which is a one-stop solution to tracking your motoring costs. It monitors economy, servicing bills and even reminds you when maintenance is due. We also liked the graphs which come up when the phone is held sideways.

AccuFuel
Price: £0.59
As with its rivals, this is more tailored to pumping gas than petrol. There is a heavy US influence and few European cars in its database, but that doesn’t stop it working out your mpg. Each fill is entered on one page and a summary appears on the opening display for each vehicle. If you only want to monitor mileage, this works well.
