Dog harnesses

Give your dog extra protection when you're driving with these harnesses

Dog harnesses

Keeping occupants safe in the car is critical – and that goes for dogs as well as children. Protecting your pet requires more than a dog guard – and you can now get a dedicated harness to secure your pup.

Two products dominate the market, and both have been imported from the USA by specialist website care4dogsonthego.com. The Bergan and the Snoozer can be secured using your car’s existing fixings, have been crash tested at 30mph and come in a selection of sizes.

We put both to the test, trying each on a Border Terrier, and rating the differing designs for ease of use. We wanted a simple connection to the seatbelt, as well as an easy strap system for securing it to our dog.

Finally, we factored in value for money – although price varies on the size you need. The Bergan harness is keenly priced, but requires a fair amount of adjusting when on the dog, and the straps can become confusing.

We prefer the Snoozer. Although it’s more pricey, it’s simpler to use and clips into the seatbelt buckle rather than the strap.
