It's still hard to find a better MPV than the S-MAX. It brought the spotlight back on to the people carrier market when it was launched in 2006 and its mixture of interior space and sharp driving dynamics is tough to beat. Early models now fall within our £7,500 budget, but don’t expect to find a low-mileage example.

It’s been on sale for little over a year, and doesn’t have a particularly tempting new price list, but £7,500 will buy you an early model with less than 10,000 miles on the clock.
