Volkswagen Touran

Economy: 61.4mpg, CO2: 121g/km, Road tax: £90

Volkswagen Touran

We've already tested the new Touran 2.0 TDI – but if ultimate economy is your aim, you’ll need to go for the BlueMotion Technology version of VW’s latest seven-seater MPV. It is one of the few models in this class to claim combined economy of more than 60mpg. Both the 89bhp and 104bhp versions of the 1.6-litre Touran TDI register 55.4mpg, yet add BlueMotion Technology, and the 104bhp unit hits an incredible 61.4mpg in the Government test. Not bad considering there’s room inside for you and a five-a-side football team – with a substitute!
