New AIM EV Sport 01 supercar to debut at Goodwood

The AIM EV Sport 01 has over 600bhp and a rear-wheel drive setup

Goodwood Festival of Speed will play host to the launch of an all-new electric supercar - called the AIM EV Sport 01.

The EV Sport 01 is the work of legendary car designer, Shiro Nakamura, a man responsible for the Nissan GT-R and Nissan Leaf. It could almost be described as a combination of the two cars with savage GT-R-like acceleration and an all-electric powertrain.

“The EV Sport 01 has minimal form language and avoids exaggerated and complicated surfaces, reminiscent of the great European and Japanese sports cars of the 1960’s”, said Nakamura. The doors open upwards for the full supercar showboating effect and the car displays the classic long-bonnet, stubby rear end, sports car proportions.

A 81kWh battery sends power to two electric motors mounted on the rear axle. AIM says there’s over 600bhp and up to 740Nm of torque available. The EV Sport 01 is also pretty compact (much smaller than a BMW M2, for example) given the power on offer and for a full-EV the 1,425kg kerb weight is relatively light.

The body is made from a tubular aluminium frame with double-wishbone suspension front and rear. Carbon fibre body panels and structure all help keep weight down and should provide decent torsional rigidity.

Speaking ahead of the car’s dynamic debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed, AIM President and CEO Yukinori Suzuki said: “The vision for the AIM EV Sport 01 was fast, and enjoyable to drive, while the mainstream trend for EVs is AWD, the character of this car called for a RWD configuration. I am really excited to be personally driving the car up the hill at Goodwood this year!”
