Hyundai Ioniq 5 - Reliability and safety
Buyers will be reassured by the Ioniq 5's excellent levels of standard safety kit and five-year warranty cover
Hyundai finished 17th out of 32 manufacturers in our most recent Driver Power customer satisfaction survey. The Ioniq 5 didn't feature in our best cars to own poll, but the closely related Kia EV6 placed seventh out of 75 cars.
The Ioniq 5 achieved a five-star rating when it was crash tested by Euro NCAP, with testers praising its crash protection, including an airbag that stops occupants' heads striking each other in a side-on impact.
The standard kit includes a Forward Collision Avoidance Assist function, Highway Drive Assist and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, along with Lane Follow and Lane-Keeping Assist systems. Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist also features, as does smart cruise control.
Other passive features include a total of seven airbags and eCall, which automatically contacts the emergency services if the vehicle is involved in an accident.
Warranty
Hyundai offers an attractive five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty for all of its passenger cars, along with 12 months of roadside assistance and free annual health checks of your car for up to five years. The Ioniq 5’s lithium-ion battery is covered for eight years/125,000-miles, although it’s linked to a ‘minimum capacity’ caveat, which means any required repairs will return the battery capacity to at least 70 per cent of its original capacity.
Servicing
Hyundai offers flexible servicing plans designed to meet your individual requirements – based on the model you own, expected mileage, and the period you’d like the plan to cover. You can pay in a lump sum or over interest-free monthly instalments.
