All X-Types need servicing every 12 months. There’s a 10,000-mile limit for petrol cars, and it’s 12,500 miles on diesels. Services alternate between minor and major for petrols (£350 and £450 respectively), while diesels need a major pitstop every third visit – prices are similar.
None of the engines has a cambelt, but a £600 bill is likely every seventh service (or at 70,000 miles) on petrol cars to renew plugs and filters. Brake fluid needs replacing every two years (£95), and coolant every five or 10 years (£125), depending on the engine and the car’s age.
