New Brabus 900 Superblack turns Mercedes G-Class up to 11
The Brabus Superblack comes with 900bhp and a suite of exterior and interior upgrades
Brabus has a long history of fettling Mercedes models to make them more powerful and eye-catching. It’s certainly stuck to that formula in the case of its latest model, the Brabus 900 Superblack, which is based on the Mercedes-AMG G63 performance version of the G-Class SUV.
Having already created the P 900 Rocket Edition and the 900 XLP, Brabus is no stranger to the Mercedes-AMG G 63. The Superblack comes with a lot of performance upgrades but also a fair few cosmetic tweaks have found their way onto the car.
Let’s start with the mechanicals, the 900 Superblack gets a 4.5-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 with 900bhp and 1,250Nm of torque. That’s 323bhp and 400Nm more than the standard car. This is achieved with specially-developed turbochargers and a bespoke engine tune. To make sure the extra power is referenced acoustically, there’s a new sports exhaust system with carbon tips. We’re guessing most 900 Superblack owners probably won’t mind that the combined fuel efficiency figure is just 16.4mpg.
The 3.7s 0-62mph time is a 0.2-second improvement over the standard car’s and power is, of course, sent to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. Brabus has also fitted a new set of coilover springs which can adjust the ride height by 45mm. Top speed stands at a lofty 174mph.
The visual tweaks on the Superblack include huge 24-inch forged wheels, a new bonnet with large air intakes, Brabus logos and indented script on the spare wheel cover, a revised grille and a wide body kit with additional wheel vents. Roof-mounted LED light bars will help should you take the 900 Superblack off-roading.
The interior receives similar levels of modification with Brabus’ diamond quilted upholstery throughout, embossed ‘77’ markers denoting the year Brabus was formed, lashings of carbon fibre trim, aluminium pedals and a new set of carbon shift paddles.
Brabus hasn’t said how much the Superblack costs, but with the Brabus 900 XLP having been priced from £500,000, we expect a similar figure here.
