New MG EX4 concept makes Goodwood debut
The MG EX4 takes inspiration from the MG Metro 6R4 rally car
MG’s rallying history is being used to create an extreme version of the MG4 - called the EX4. The new concept features plenty of performance-focused exterior tweaks, plus a potent all-electric powertrain and it has just made its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The EX4 is inspired by the MG Metro 6R4, an icon of the Group B era of rallying in the 1980s. The concept car ‘embodies the spirit of its legendary successor’ according to MG.
To the front we can see a huge front splitter and new bumper layout, there’s also a vent in the bonnet to extract air. Within the widened wheel arches are a new set of aero-disc wheels that look like they’ve come straight out of the 1980s. To the rear there’s a massive wing in true Group B style, along with a rear diffuser.
Powering the EX4 is the new MG4 XPower’s electric drivetrain. It’s a dual-motor system putting out 429bhp and 600Nm of torque. Along with the wider body we should see a bespoke chassis set up with revised springs and dampers, anti-roll bars and brakes.
MG says the EX4 “boldly reimagines the Metro 6R4 rally legend of the 1980s”. The car will be unveiled at the First Glance paddock at the Goodwood Festival of Speed where it’ll be accompanied by the new MG Cyberster electric roadster.
