New Pininfarina B95: 1,873bhp electric hypercar revealed at 2023 Monterey Car Week

The B95 has been created to mark 95 years of the Pininfarina design house

Pininfarina is one of the most emotive names in the automotive industry and the latest model to bear the name is the B95 - an all-electric hypercar based on the hard-top Battista but with a ‘speedster’ roofless bodystyle.

The ‘B’ in the name stands for ‘Barchetta’ as a nod to the eye-catching body shape and the ‘95’ signals 95 years from the time Pininfarina S.P.A was founded to the B95’s scheduled start of production in 2025.

Paolo Dellachà, Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Pininfarina, said: “This is the most exciting chapter of the Automobili Pininfarina story so far. The introduction of the B95 is the third of three building blocks. First, we introduced the Battista Edizione Nino Farina, then the PURA Vision design concept. Now, our new Barchetta shows how these design principles can be applied.”

Exclusivity is assured with the Pininfarina B95 as just 10 examples are planned. Pricing hasn’t been announced but we expect it to be significantly more expensive even than the £2m Battista.

The two-tone paint finish on the launch car is made up of metallic ‘Bronzo Superga’ and ‘Giallo Arneis’ to the front with a ‘95’ in gloss black on the driver’s dome. Exposed carbon is dotted around the exterior including on the front splitter and rear aero outlet.

A bespoke set of 20-inch front and 21-inch rear forged aluminium wheels have been given to the B95 to help it stand out further from the Battista. Of course, the biggest change is what you can’t see - the lack of a windscreen and roof to give the B95 an uncompromised open-top driving experience.

The interior is “the epitome of a classic race car meeting futuristic design” according to Pininfarina. There’s a carbon-fibre dashboard with tan leather upholstery featuring bespoke embossing. The two-part design of the seats is inspired by the ones found in the PURA Vision concept, with unique aluminium inserts added. Pininfarina claims each one of the 10 B95s will be unique thanks to ‘unlimited’ customisation options.

The powertrain is lifted straight from the Battista. A 120kW battery powers a quad electric motor setup for 1,873bhp and 2,340Nm of torque so there’s a 0-60mph of less than two seconds and a top speed of over 186mph - a full-face helmet for B95 occupants is advised.

Unless you go down the route of internal combustion engines with the McLaren Elva and the Ferrari Monza SP1, the B95 is in a class of its own. Although we could see more rivals come to the fore at slightly more affordable price points with Porsche’s Vision 357 Speedster concept and the Polestar 6 on the way.
