Summer tyres with chains: Maggi The One

Chains are our least favourite alternative to winter tyres. They’re trickier to fit and remove than the socks, although the chain is self-tensioning and designed not to damage rims with low-profile tyres.

The chains gave improved traction and cornering grip, but a harsh ride. And while we used a narrow gauge chain, it knocked on our Golf test car when the wheels spun or at speed.
