Best executive car
It's a tough market to crack, cars need a great combination of style, luxury and sporting pedigree to triumph here.
Taking the top honours in the executive car class is arguably more difficult than grabbing the gold medal in any other sector. That’s because the average rating here is higher than in any other.
If you want to maximise your chances of owning a model that will live up to all your expectations, choose an executive saloon. Bettering the class average by more than three percentage points, the winning car here is no stranger to Driver Power success.
The overall winner three years ago and still ranked third overall in 2011, Jaguar’s XF is the cream of the executive car crop. The British built model is surrounded on the podium by both current and previous generation versions of Mercedes’ E-Class.
There’s very little separating the two German favourites, but it’s the lower running costs of the newer model that allow it to sneak into the led. Fourth place goes to a surprising entry into this chart.
Saab’s old shape 9-5 makes an interesting choice on the used market and providing you are prepared for some premium-price running costs you won’t be disappointed.
Topping and tailing the class, Jaguar’s XF predecessor makes it into fifth position. The S-Type is temptingly cheap on the used car market and offers class, comfort and style.
