Mercedes CL facelift
Merc's big coupe gets new face and a new name...
On the face of it there surprisingly few changes to the revised CL-Class shown here - the big news is the badge on the boot. Following Merc's decision to rebrand the CLK as the E-Class Coupe, the CL looks set to be renamed the S-Class Coupe when it goes on sale later this year.
The move is designed to create more obvious links between models in Mercedes' range - demonstrating that the CL is simply a two-door version of the luxury saloon.
Modifications to the current CL's styling include a redesigned front bumper and a single cross-bar in the grille, while the interior gains the large split-view screen from the recently revised S-Class. Under the bonnet will be a largely unchanged array of V8 and V12 petrol engines, but with improvements to fuel economy and CO2 emissions, without sacrificing power and refinement. The powerful S400 BlueHybrid system is also a possibilty thanks to the S-Class and CL's shared components.
