Saloon, hatch or sports car?

Porsche Panamera S, Audi RS6, BMW M6, Mercedes CLS63 AMG (Issue 1,082)

auto express

Few cars we’ve tested over the past 12 months have been as hotly anticipated or long awaited as the Porsche Panamera. It’s billed as the first-ever saloon to
come from the legendary firm, but the huge machine is technically a hatchback with limousine levels of rear space.

There was only one way to find out how good it was, and that was to put some miles on the clock. And that’s how we ended up on a deserted beach in north Wales with a trio of very different rivals. It saw off the coupé, estate and conventional saloon that we had brought along for the ride so, while we’re still not sure about its looks, we can say for certain that the new Panamera is a worthy addition to the Porsche line-up.
