You can be forgiven for losing your way when it comes sat-nav. With portable units now available from around £100, it’s hard to see why you’d shell out 10 times that figure for a factory-fitted system – and our experts at trade bible Glass’s Guide agree. 

Apart from the security and cosmetic benefits of an integrated set-up, there’s little to recommend. “Lots of buyers just don’t use it, so they’re not prepared to pay extra for it,” explained chief car editor Jeff Patterson. “Renault’s TomTom models are a good example. Nearly new models fetch a premium, but after 18 months or so they’re worth no more than non-sat-nav cars.”
