The winged Aston Martin motif is one of the most desirable badges in the motoring world. Its reputation for luxury and performance has a far greater reach, though, and Aston has been named the UK’s top brand in the annual CoolBrands survey – ahead of the likes of BlackBerry, Dom Perignon and Google, not to mention Ferrari. We decided to find out what makes the firm so special as we looked at its past, present and future in search of the greatest Aston Martin of all.

The company has enjoyed a rollercoaster ride since its birth in 1914. What started as a hobby grew into a formidable business, and Aston achieved cult status in the Sixties thanks to everybody’s favourite secret agent. From the dark days of the Nineties, when production dropped to a handful of cars a year, to the relative comfort of Ford ownership, there has never been a dull moment. 

The brand is now back in independent ownership, and its distinctive badge looks set to be a fixture among the world’s most desirable cars for years to come…
