The third-generation C4 was named 2023’s best car to own after it received superb scores across the board in the most recent Driver Power owner satisfaction survey. It finished in the top 10 for six of the categories we surveyed. More specifically, it snagged fourth place in the reliability, economy, and servicing costs categories. Citroen as a brand also performed well and came 11th (out of 32) in the best car manufacturer rankings.

The C4 was tested by crash safety experts Euro NCAP in 2021, and received a four-star rating. Several rivals to the C4 get the maximum five-star rating, but that doesn’t mean that this Citroen won’t protect you in a crash. Its score was penalised because the autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system didn’t meet all of Euro NCAP’s standards.

The C4 certainly benefits from lots of standard safety kit, with an (AEB) system, speed limit detection, Lane Keeping Assist, a driver attention alert system, lane departure detection, and a forward collision warning system. Adaptive cruise control can be added to Max trim cars as part of the Techno Pack, and comes as standard on e-Series. A blind spot detection system is reserved for Max and e-Series trims.

Warranty

Every new Citroen is covered by a three-year/60,000-mile warranty, which is pretty standard for the industry, although owners have the option to top up this cover to five years/100,000 miles. You also get one year of free Citroen roadside assistance.

Servicing

To help with managing servicing costs Citroen offers tailored plans for your vehicle, starting from around £19 a month for its petrol and diesel models, or about £11 for Citroen EVs.
