RAC 2000
Price: £59.99 Traffic? None
Cheapest on test, yet still very accurate – the Halfords-sourced RAC 2000 recalculated in five seconds! There’s no bezel, so the touchscreen works right to the edge, plus the bright display gave clear instructions. But it’s not the best executed package – the mount is clumsy, and it was the only unit on test which didn’t read out street names. Plus, the display takes a while to register finger inputs, and the menus are a little confusing. Worse still, the 2000 took 26 seconds to route us to Glasgow, and doesn’t have European mapping or TMC traffic alerts. As a basic, no-frills unit, it’s hard to look past that price – but it was never going to be able to challenge for top honours when you look at the features provided by the competition here.
